Reflection: Vian Borchert’s Latest Paintings  at Gallery Underground in September
Dates:  September 1 – 25, 2020
– No opening reception due to health safety regulations –

Gallery Underground’s Focus Gallery in September presents Reflection, a solo exhibition of current paintings by Vian Borchert. Vian Borchert is a contemporary award-winning artist and graduate and Notable Alumni from the Corcoran College of Art and Design, George Washington University, Washington, DC. Borchert, an expressionist artist, has shown in numerous group and solo exhibitions in major world cities for many years. Many of her latest paintings for this show were produced during quarantine and Coronavirus times, as Borchert reflects on our new reality and our new normal. In some paintings there is a yearning for future adventures the artist aspires to explore. In other works, Borchert revisits past travels to distant lands where life was simpler and freer.  The work, albeit abstract in nature, offers symbolism referencing the status of our current lives where the future is unknown, and life is such a precious commodity. “For me nature is very important and plays a very essential role in my life,” says Borchert of her work. “Thus, I am a nature lover – mother nature is my sanctuary and my ultimate solace. In these latest paintings, I contemplate  time spent observing nature in order to reach inner peace and attain moments of zen, especially in these uncertain trying times.” The paintings are all acrylic on canvas and  are executed through Borchert’s  signature painterly style. Abstracted seascapes and landscapes with depictions of waves and mist intermingle with strong brushstrokes.

The Main Gallery presents a new show for September with member work in all media.

The National Gallery of Art in Amman, Jordan has Borchert’s  artwork in their permanent collection; Borchert’s art has been on exhibit in prestigious places such as the United Nations General Assembly’s Public Lobby Gallery, NYC, and in “Art Basel Miami Beach” Spectrum Miami, the LA Art Show, 1stdibs Design Center in Chelsea, NYC. Borchert is represented by galleries in major world cities such as NYC, LA and the DMV area and her work has been shown in galleries throughout the world in places such as Washington DC, NYC, LA, Miami, Maryland, Virginia, Wiesbaden – Germany, Amman, Rome, London, Dubai, Manchester. Borchert’s art has been featured in many press such as The Washington Post, Elan magazine, Art Daily, Artist Portfolio Magazine, D’art International Magazine, ART PLUGGED, The Miami Art Scene, The Town Courier, Culture Spot MC, The Huffington Post, The Washington Diplomat, The Gazette, The Georgetowner, DC Modern Luxury magazine, NPR’s Art Beat, Maniera District magazine and others. Borchert is also an art educator, currently teaching art classes in Painting and in Drawing to adults at The Yellow Barn Studio at Glen Echo Park, Maryland, USA. Urban Soul—April Show

Urban Soul
Dates: April 1-23, 2021
– No opening reception due to health safety regulations –
Urban Soul Art Exhhibit showcases images from Gustavo Forselledo and hangs during the month of April. There will not be an opening reception due to health safety regulations.

The images of the streets and other urban landscapes that Gustavo Forselledo paints are an expression of how those places feel to him.

Once the images are on canvas, they acquire their own movements and feelings, so his intention is to see if you can observe and perceive the rhythm and soul of the cities he depicts.

In this exhibit Gustavo Forselledo is showing two series of urban landscape paintings. The first series is comprised of expressionist images of Washington D.C. and other cities worldwide. The second series focuses on Uruguayan urban icons and tango-related themes.

Uruguayan masters Carlos Paez Vilaró and Joaquín Torres García are Forselledo’s sources of inspiration. His artwork medium is acrylic and ink on canvas or hardboard.
